They grew up calling each other, "TRUEBUD," and that's how the team name was formed.

Smokey D's BBQ was founded in 2006 by Darren and Sherry Warth in a trailer in their driveway. Winners of the 2013 Kingsford Invitational, the 2013 American Royal Open, and many other championships, their success on the competition BBQ circuit is reflected in their successful restaurant and catering business.
Charity: Believe in Tomorrow Children's Foundation
3 Eyz BBQ was formed in 2006 in Maryland and has been tearing up the competitive BBQ circuit ever since. The team has traveled across the United States and competed in over 140 Sanctioned BBQ contests racking up an impressive list of awards. As of November 2013, the team has won 23 Grand Championships, 19 Reserve Grand Championships, over 400 top ten awards and a perfect score in ribs at the 2012 Jack Daniels World Championship. Our biggest achievement is being crowned the: 2012 Kansas City BBQ Society's (KCBS) 2012 Team of the Year!
Charity: Horses Helping to Heal
Left Coast Q was formed in 2010 as a, "friends and family," team from Banning, Ca. They have been gunning for the top since their very first contest! A little over 60 contests cooked in their short 3 year career has totaled to over 10 GC's and 11 RGC's along with many top ten finishes. As the 2012 and 2013 CBBQA Team of the Year, no California team has had as many wins as Left Coast Q in the past two years. Left Coast Q has also finished in the top 25 of the KCBS standings for the past 2 years, a great feat for a fairly new team!
Charity: Bit By Bit
When Little Pig Town started cooking in 2008, it was originally Scot Kee and a friend. But by the time the team's first year was over, Scot's wife and daughter were coming to most contests; eventually, his wife daughter started cooking with Scot in 2009 and it has been that way ever since. Little Pig Town has been to the Jack once and finished 4th overall. Since 2008 they have earned over 12 Reserve grand Championships, and over 20 Grand Championships.
Pig Skin BBQ (also sometimes known as "Swine Assassins") has been competing for over 5 years. This tightly-knit family team is made up of Scott and Katy Nelson, along with their five children Gavin, Chloe, Ben, Valerie, and Lucas. Pig Skin BBQ have won such prestigious awards as Grand Champion at The 2012 Jack Daniels World Championship, and Reserve Grand Champion at the 2013 King of the Smoker.
Charity: UNI Adapted Sports Camp
Tippycanoe BBQ is a championship competition BBQ team based in St. Ansgar Iowa. Founded in 2008, we compete in Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned contests all over the country. In 2011 Team Tippy was crowned National Champions at the Inaugural Sam's Club National BBQ Tour and Grand Champions of the ""World Series of Barbecue"" American Royal Invitational. Since hitting the competition trail in late 2008 we've won over 12 Grand Championships, including the King of the Smoker Invitational, 10 Reserve Grand Championships, and hundreds of category and overall top 10 awards.
Charity: Children's Cancer Connection out of Des Moines
Lucky's Q started competing in KCBS sanctioned events in 2010 with partaking in 5 that year. Justin (head cook) made a smoker out of a 55 gallon air compresor tank and him and his wife (Kate) hit the road. Once the first ribbon was received, they were hooked. As a whole they have just over 60 contests under their belt in their short career. In 2011 they received their first GC in Owatonna, Minnesota which in return let them get their bung pulled for the Jack Daniels Invitational. In between the time of their first GC and The Jack, they had their first child, Gavin. He got started early and was at his first contest when 8 days old, and by the time he was 2 months he had been in 5 states (all due to BBQ).

Big T'z Q Cru is led Head cook, Ryan Newstrom. Big T'z are a family team from Ames, Iowa that began competing in 2009. While many friends and family join them for competitions, the main team members consist of Ryan, his wife Sonya Newstrom and her Dad Daniel Stoltze. Out of the four years that they have been competing Big T'z has been the Iowa BBQ Society Team of the Year three of those years.
Charity: ADSUM Education Foundation
Altogether, SMBBQ has 3 Grand Championships, four Reserve Grand Champinonships and thirteen category wins. Steph Franklin aka "the Genie" is the award winning BBQ chef/owner of Simply Marvelous BBQ Catering & Spice Rub Seasoning Company. Steph uses a fusion style of cooking developed from his travels throughout the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Through his wanderings he had the opportunity to sample a wide array of flavor combinations, which inspired him to develop his own product line of rubs, seasonings, and sauces. He began marketing his blends under the "Simply Marvelous BBQ" name in 2008 and is known throughout the national and international BBQ communities. In his spare time, Steph competes in the professional BBQ circuit. Feeding his competitive spirit, he has successfully participated in competitions across the country, from California to New York. In October 2012, SMBBQ began to take it to the next level, winning his first Grand Championship. Since then, SMBBQ has acquired two additional Grand Championships and three Reserve Grand Championships. Currently competition teams across the country are enjoying great success using the "West Coast Offense" flavor profile an award winning combination of Simply Marvelous and Bib Poppa Smokers rubs.
We had several names before landing on a name we really liked, Grills Gone Wild. Our friends from California came up with the name while on vacation. Head cook is Steve Nelson, we've been doing competition for 5 years. My wife Kathy is my team mate. We are from Algona, Iowa. Our occupation is dealers for Hunter Douglas selling custom window treatments. We have been doing that for 32 years. We have 2 children, our son, Scott is a chiropractor and he and his wife, Katy do competition BBQ, as Pig Skin BBQ. We are starting our seventh year of competition in 2014.

Wine Country "Q" is a husband and wife competition BBQ team from Duvall, Washington. It was born out of two passions: Rhana McGee's passion for wine and traveling the wine regions of the world, and John "JD" McGee's passion for BBQ. The idea was simple: travel & and eat! Competition BBQ seemed like the perfect hobby to satisfy both passions. They teamed up in 2011 and took the local competition BBQ circuit by storm winning 7 Grand Championships and 1 Reserve Grand Championship as well as the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association's 2011 "Team Of The Year". 2012 and 2013 brought more success for Wine Country Q winning 10 Grand and 6 Reserve Grand Championships along with PNWBA "Team Of The Year" for their third consecutive season. And they're not done yet...
Swiggin' Pig started in 2006 with 2 contests, 6 in 2007, and have had a full schedule since 2008. With their first GC in Murray, Ky, in 2009, they have gained over 19 GC's and 19 RGC's including RGC at The Jack 2012. They have been in the top 25 the last 3 years for KCBS Team of the Year standings and came in 6th in 2013. Team members are: Barry Johnson, Mike Johnson, Francene Johnson, Brooke Johnson, and Riley the golden retriever.
Charity: St. John's Children's Hospital
Hailing from Taylorville, IL Gilly's BBQ is solely run by Gil Taft (unless he is forced to deputize a box runner.) Mr. Taft started cooking in 2007 doing several backyard contests and did his first KCBS competition at Arthur,Il. The next year he competed in 17 contests and had his first GC and went to the American Royal World Series of BBQ. In the past two years Gilly's BBQ has finished in the top 10 in the KCBS Team of the Year.
Charity: KidsPack USA
Swamp Boys BBQ is a Winter Haven FL based professional barbecue cook team. Swamp Boys began competing as a professional team in 2004, was a Top 5 team in the Florida BBQ Association (FBA) in 2006 and 2007, was Team of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and have been in the top 3 since then. Swamp Boys was ranked the #1 team in the country for 67 straight weeks, including all of 2009, by the National BBQ Rankings. Swamp Boys compete primarily in the southeast: FL, AL, GA, SC, NC and TN in both FBA and KCBS contests. They have won 43 Grand Championships and 33 Reserve Grand Championships. Swamp Boys have won the World Championship in Pork Shoulder. They have been hired to go to Brazil on 2 different occasions to train and help open that country's first ever American-Style Barbecue restaurant. They have taught professional BBQ classes from FL to IL to over 120 people from all over the country and Canada. They've been a spokesman for Kingsford Charcoal at the Daytona Firecracker 400 and the Steve Harvey Show, and been selected to compete in Season 4 of the TV show BBQ Pitmasters.

The BPS Elite Team is a brand ambassador program that is based off of
BBQ, camaraderie, and children's charities.
With the number of top BBQ cooks switching to Big Poppa's rubs, Sterling Ball (aka Big Poppa) felt the need to make the collaboration official during the start of the 2013 BBQ competition season. This is not the typical endorsement deal: the BPS Elite Program is considered a relationship first and a sponsorship second. Each team is comprised of great pit masters and competitors; there are no contracts or payouts involved with these teams.
Through their mutual love of BBQ, Big Poppa and the BPS Elite Teams are also dedicated to bettering the lives of children in their own communities. From coast to coast, each BPS Elite team has chosen a children's charity to compete for. Starting with $1,000 from Big Poppa, each team also has the potential to win an extra $5,000 for taking, "Overall GC," at the end of the season. They can also win an extra $2,500 for first place in any of the four meat categories at the end of the season. All points are tallied in early January, and Big Poppa Smokers puts up the money as part of the sponsorship program; issuing the donations on behalf of the Elite Teams.
With each team competing for the top spot, all points are tallied using KCBS standings, and are updated weekly on the BPS Elite points race website at http://elite.bigpoppasmokers.com/. Each team must also have certain credentials to participate in this program, including but not limited to: using at least two BPS rubs in their recipes, geographical coverage, and willingness to talk about which rubs they use for competition. Outside of being one of the nicest groups of people you will ever meet, the BPS Elite teams have been earning multiple GCs, RGCs, 180 scores, and category firsts across America.

Simply Marvelous BBQ is competing for ADSUM Education Foundation.
Our 10 year old nephew was born with Spina Bifida and is wheelchair bound as a result. He has participated in the Adapted Sports Camps held at the University of Northern Iowa and had great experiences.Website
Their mission is to "improve language and literacy development in children from birth to age 8 and nurture healthy parent-child relationships." They provide free books to all children of of need in our area, and provide programs to enrich the literacy development of young children throughout the region. As a parent and former educator, I understand how crucial early language development is for all children. That is why I have chosen them to be the benefactor of any BPS Elite TOY awards we receive.
JDRF is a very special charity to us. Our daughter Haley was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 11 and through the help of JDRF and it?s efforts she?s now 22 yrs old and lives a normal life. We strive to find a cure for this disease that effects millions of people every year. JDRF not only provides money for research, but also helps with support of newly diagnosed kids and their families.Website
Since opening in 1997, Bit by Bit has been and continues to be Northeast Oklahoma's premier therapeutic riding program. Founded by Linda Barron and originally located on the campus of Rogers State University in Claremore, Bit by Bit began as a way to make a difference in the lives of individuals with special needs through equine therapy. Over the years, the program has relocated to Oologah and expanded to serve over 70 students, offering therapeutic riding lessons to children living with a variety of special needs. One thing hasn't changed: the commitment to making a difference in riders' lives. This is possible thanks to over 150 volunteers, nearly 20 horses, and generous support from donors. The reason I like St. John's Children's Hospital is because it is in my community and you can visit and see the real things that are happening right now and I was born there. They are in constant need of small things in the playroom that make a child smile and feel more at home. I hope I can have success with the elite team to help provide these things.
Swiggin' Pig has chosen Variety Children's Charities of Memphis because of their efforts in helping children all over the mid south and also for supporting BBQ.Website
Swamp Boys will be competing for a local children's charity called kidsPack USA (http://www.kidspack.org/). They provide a backpack to select children on Fridays filled with simple to prepare food for them to eat over the weekends. Unfortunately too many families rely on the free breakfast and lunch at school as the only food their children get. kidsPack works to bridge the gap for weekends, as well as holidays and other breaks from school including summer. Swamp Boys has donated to them in the past and I feel they are providing a great service for our community. Some of the children I teach benefit from the kidsPack program.
We are competing for Believe in Tomorrow's Children's Foundation. A good friend of ours and a fantastic cook in his own right, Dillon Booth, has had some struggles through life. This is one of the foundations that has helped him and his family, so we are honored at the chance to give back through the BPS Elite program.Website Facebook
